Child Protection Policy

This policy is one of a series of policies covering the work of Clevedon Rugby Football Club and should be read in conjunction with these, especially the coaching and Health & Safety policies.

At Clevedon Rugby Football Club we believe that taking part in sport should be a positive and enjoyable part of children's lives.

We recognise that:

  • Child Abuse can take many forms: physical, sexual and emotional
  • The coaches and helpers within the Club are responsible for the welfare of the children in their care
  • Rugby is a physical sport and that safe coaching it requires a degree of physical contact and verbal encouragement

We want to make sure that children in our care are protected and kept safe from physical, sexual and emotional harm while they are with the Club's coaches, helpers and other volunteers or in the Club's grounds.

To achieve this we aim that:
  • All coaches will have attended at least one official Rugby Union training course before being responsible for children
  • All coaches will have qualified to Preliminary Award level before they are allowed to be the Head Coach of any age group
  • The Club will encourage and help coaches to stay up to date with rugby, the laws, techniques, coaching and child protection issues.
  • All managers, coaches and specialist helpers will be given a Policy and a Rugby Union's Code of Conduct on Child Protection.
  • All managers, coaches and specialist helpers have completed a CRB Disclosure Application form.
  • We will provide coaches and parents with a written procedure for dealing with suspicions and accusations of child abuse.
  • We will identify a person whose role it is to deal with any concerns about physical, sexual or emotional abuse within the club or its grounds.
  • We will keep written records of attendance, parental consents and significant accidents.
  • As a Club we will promote 'fair play' and always play within the letter and spirit of the Laws.

We are also working to ensure that all managers and coaches will have attended a Child Protection Workshop

The club's child protection officers are Neil Tucker, 01275 340696 and Angela Wadsworth, 07577 913883

Equity Policy

Clevedon RFC is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects and every team of the Club. In doing so, the Club acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of sports equity:

Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.

The Club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.

Clevedon RFC is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.

All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.

The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour Seriously, according to Club disciplinary procedures.

Photography

Clevedon RFC appreciates that this is a sensitive area and we do not want any children or parents to have any concerns. Therefore we have set in place a policy that is based on the RFU Guidelines on Video/ Photographic images where children under the age of 18 are involved.

  • a. Any adult seeking to take photographs of any player from Clevedon RFC must first speak with the head coach of that age group ideally or as an alternative, the coach taking the session. This is a fundamental requirement, not just a courtesy.
  • b. If any of the players parents or people looking after them who are present object, then no photographs may be taken.
  • c. All young people must be appropriately dressed for the activity taking place.
  • d. Photography or recording should focus on the activity rather than the individual.
  • e. Where an individual has achieved success in the game, permission must be gained from a parent / guardian to use the images in any publication.
  • f. Wherever possible, photographs / recordings should represent the diverse range of young people participating in rugby.
  • g. Head coaches may authorise, head and shoulder photographs for the purpose of identification. These pictures are not for publication.
  • h. All concerns regarding inappropriate or intrusive photography should be reported in confidence to the clubs Child Protection Officer.

Any parent or guardian who objects to their child being photographed should notify the head coach or Youth Chairman otherwise it will be presumed that photographs may be taken and that the images can be used in rugby related publications and on the club web site.
