Please contact the grumpy git because he wants this to be the mother of all reunions and something none of us will forget.
Also, please come armed with a reminisce or two - the more embarrassing the better.
Friday the 27th of August - Pre-reunion get together for all, including partners. Exit 21 are playing.
Saturday the 28th of August - Reunion
We have over 300 people already committed to coming to the reunion on the Saturday night. With this in mind we have had to print some tickets for this event. This is due to a limit of 400 people being allowed in.
The ticket, which costs £5.00, gets you a pig roast and a pint of your favourite tipple. We are selling these in advance of the date in case we have 500 turning up on the night.
If you intend to be there I would advise buying a ticket now as they’re going like hot pig baps.
There are a few ways in which you can purchase the tickets.
- See Ross Brace or Paul Squires with a fiver
- Send a cheque for fiver made payable to Clevedon RFC, along with a self addressed envelope and of course a stamp
- Pop along to the rugby club, have a few beers and a fiver will disappear from your wallet by the morning!
Cruncher has kindly set up the reunion tab above. There are a few photos on there already, but we will be adding more throughout the coming months.
Finally there are still a few people to get hold of so keep passing the details through to anyone you’re in contact with.
Cheers, Ross

St.Ives 20 Clevedon 19 10th April 2010
Team: M.Lowis, B.Hazeldine, S.Johns, T.O'Rourke, J.Barzotelli, T.Thie, J.Williams, D.Vivian, D.Williams, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, O.Biggins, H.Russell, D.Rawle. Replacements: M.Honour, G.Carpenter, K.Vickery.

This was definitely a game of two halves. Clevedon absolutely steam rollered the first and should have been out of sight and then St. Ives found their spark and thoroughly destroyed Clevedon with three tries without reply. With Clevedon pressing in the final minutes, St. Ives hung on for the win and Clevedon were devastated and could quite believe what had happened.
Clevedon will have to wait until next season to put things right.

Look what happens when you go away for a week.
Clevedon clock up their second highest home points of the season with some stunning open rugby. Roger Birkin, Clevedon's outstanding blindside, has his last game for the club before going to further his career in New Zealand and Captain Potts takes over the flag. A reliable source tells me that Pottsy failed to go behind the sticks for Sidmouth's conversion, so he'll obviously need more training next week. I look forward to instructing him.
Next week, Clevedon are at home to Avonmouth in the league. Kick off is at 15:00.

During this game and with the cold rain falling, it was difficult to get the song out of my head. You know the one I mean - "When the train is in the station, please refrain from urination, have regard for railway property...".
It was such a distraction that it almost ruined my flag waving during a game that Paignton won because they defended well against the numerous Clevedon attacks.
..."But if you feel that you oughta, kindly ask the nearest porter, who'll direct you to the lavatory. Along the platform you must wander, and a penny you must squander, to relieve yourself with might and with may."

Weston-Super-Mare 19 Clevedon 14 3rd March 2010 Somerset Cup Semi-Final
Team: M.Lowis, G.Cherrignton, S.Johns, A.Vailes, S.Johnson, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts, D.Williams, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, R.Birkin, J.Shopland, H.Russell. Replacements: A.Vailes, D.Vivian, O.Biggins, J.Williams, J.Barzotelli, D.Rawle.

The general after match opinion among the neutrals was that Clevedon did themselves proud against higher opposition, but were the architects of their own downfall with missed kicks and missed opportunities. That might be a bit harsh to some, but the reality is that Weston are National League outfit with a Kiwi fly half whose kicking has to be seen to be believed.
With the continual aerial bombardment deep into the Clevedon half Weston were always put into dangerous positions and most of the time Clevedon kept knocking them back. It seemed that every time Clevedon worked their way upfield to the try line Weston regained possession and the howitzer boot did the rest. It's no wonder they've won seven or eight on the bounce - good luck to them in the final.
This was a fine performance by Clevedon that will give them heart for the rest of their season, which is now only six games long.
On Saturday, Clevedon are away to Ivybridge in the league. Coach leaves at 11:00 sharp. Kick off is at 14:30.

Clevedon 10 Hartpury College 41 20th Febuary 2010
Team: M.Lowis, B.Hazeldine, S.Johns, T.O'Rourke, S.Johnson, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts, D.Williams, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, R.Birkin, O.Biggins, D.Rawle. Replacements: A.Vailes, D.Vivian, C.Cates.

This match only went ahead because of the dedication and hard work of the notorious Vale Forkers.
At 09:00 on Saturday morning after a hard overnight frost, the tine wielding tribe gathered on the Vale mud flats and had to resort to using spades to lift the ice off the puddles before the forking could begin. A couple of hours later the work was over and they went home for a rest, leaving the surface in the hands of Mother Nature who obliged with bright sunshine and a drying wind.
League leaders Hartpury College are a daunting sight, but also a very motivational one - every team wants to be the team that puts an end to their four year winning streak in the leagues and Clevedon were no exception. There's no doubt that Clevedon raised their game to a new level of intensity and caused Hartpury to defend their line frantically for long periods in both halves, but ultimately had to concede to the better side who had genuine pace and elusiveness out wide.

Allied with their physical presence, Hartpury are also a street-wise outfit in all aspects of the game, particularly around the defensive 5 metre lineout where their call of "sack two" bordered on the limit of legality. It was a ploy straight off the training pitch because this move depended entirely upon good timing and team work. Clevedon had no answer and opportunities were lost as a result of this lineout defence.
However, Clevedon did have the final say in both halves when they scored their tries and didn't really deserve the scoreline racked up against them, although this has been said about all of Hartpury's opponents this season. The scoring sequence suggests that Hartpury were always going to win this game, but Clevedon never gave up and the tackle count on both sides was very high. The scores came in minutes 6(T), 16(P), 24(T), 31(T), 40(CT) for a half time score of 5-22 and in minutes 61(T), 65(T), 67(T) and 78(CT) in the second for a final score of 10-41.
A great performance by Clevedon who now face three games in eight days from next Saturday.
Next week, Clevedon are at home to Avonmouth in the league, kick off is at 14:30. On Wednesday March 3rd they play Weston-Super-Mare in the Somerset Cup semi-final, which is being played at Bridgwater, kick of 19:30.

Cullompton 16 Clevedon 13 13th Febuary 2010
Team: M.Lowis, B.Hazeldine, S.Johns, T.O'Rourke, C.Cates, T.Thie, J.Williams, D.Vivian, D.Williams, J.Potts, R.Smith, B.Chase, R.Birkin, O.Biggins, H.Russell. Replacements: D.Rawle G.Cherrington, J.Williams

Clevedon were culled as Cullompton did the double over them, but it was a very close call and a frustrating one to the travelling faithful.
If this had been a televised match, the stats would've shown the territory and possession to be in Clevedon's favour by 60/40. However, the stats would also have shown that the unforced errors, kicks and missed opportunities were against Clevedon 30/70. The stats don't lie and if Clevedon had taken even a small percentage of their chances they would've won - but then again, your Grandad would be your Granny if he'd had ...
After this, all that's left for Clevedon this season is try and improve on their fifth postion. By doing this they might influence the runner's up spot as they've still got to play three of the top four, starting with toppers Hartpury College next week. The kick off is at 14:30.

Clevedon continued there winning ways when they played host to Broad Plain. The second half continued in the same vain with tries from Matt Bailey, Matt Proto, Matt Brothers and Freddie Knight. There was also a drop goal from George Harris.
This game was deemed a "Supporters Wear a Hat" day and the winner Phil Francis was awarded first prize.

| U14s v Hornets |
|
Hornets 29 Clevedon 5 7th February 2010
Clevedon travelled a short hop down the M5 to Hornets and the winning run came to an end. Despite this the team with four of their squad unavailable played well against a team where the luck favoured the home team. Who ended up 29 - 5 victors, with a score which flatters them.
Henry Parfitt, out of position played very well at scrum half, producing some outrageous dummies much to the delight of the travelling crowd. The backs to a man did everything they could to produce a score but things would not run smoothly. The forwards yet again played a physically far larger pack, the Clevedon tight 8 left them knowing they had been in a game. Clevedon's on pitch discipline was excellent and were not chastised once by the ref. The man of the match is the ever improving Hans Johnson at second row, in his first season he shows what hard work and practice achieves.

| U14s v Minehead |
|
Minehead 0 Clevedon 45 31st January 2010
A long journey worth doing, this match saw a tremendous turn out by parents and family to support the team. I would like to express my gratitude for their continued and valued support, thank you.
The game started with Clevedon in high spirits and desperate to get at the opposition. This they did and took the game from the start, scoring twice within the first ten minutes.
This shocked the again much larger opposition into a faltering and defensive mindset. Every time they tried to move they were scythed down by Clevedon who then took the ball and attacked. Chris Warren, Liam Holmes and Jack Haines at No8 caused mayhem, stealing ball at the breakdown and disrupting every Minehead move. The front row were excellent in the tight and loose with fabuluos breaks by Kite and Jenkins.
All this provided the scrum half a solid platform from which to pass comfortably. Attacks were then orchestrated for the second week running by the tigerish and intelligent play of Henry Parfitt at flyhalf, creating space with outrageous side steps breaking the gain line, giving the backs freedom to run.
All this provided the backs a solid platform from which to launch attacks. George McMullen Josh Blanin and Elliott Poulter were in fine form with the wingers of Dunn, Charles and Talbot providing ever present support. Tries by Balcombe, Brown, Doughty, Warren, Poulter, McMullen and Blanin with 5 conversions by Balcombe saw a resoundingly comprehensive away win for Clevedon at 45 - 0. Credit must also go to the opposition for mever giving up and putting up a spirited defence. Men of the match are the back row of Warren, Holmes and Haines who were like angry wasps, everywhere you wouldn't want them. Report by Colin Robinson> |

The Tics were tocked on their own patch in the English Riviera with Clevedon dominating but finding it tough against a committed Torquay defence. Nevertheless, it was a great win away from and now makes 6 in a row for Clevedon - who knows what can happen now.

The Clevedon townies did the double over the village people on a pitch that looked far better than it actually played. Despite the cloying underfoot conditions, the bright sunshine encouraged running rugby from both teams who seemed keen on entertaining a very large and vocal crowd.
The hoards began gathering early to see if Yatton could repeat last season's home win against their deadliest of rivals. Sadly they couldn't and Yatton must now dig deep to stay in this league.
Hopefully, they will avoid relegation and allow this friendly rivalry to continue next season. Good luck to them for the rest of the season.

Clevedon's band of pitch persons armed with their trusty forks and buckets ensured this game went ahead by removing and draining gallons of water early on Saturday morning. The drying weather did the rest and the Clevedon team did their part in the afternoon by rewarding them with a good win. Well done to everyone involved.
Next weeks game away to Yatton will be another closely fought local derby with Yatton needing the win to climb out of the bottom three. Clevedon will know what to expect and will be ready for any eventuality. Kick off is at 14:30.

| U14s v Walcot |
|
Clevedon 21 Walcot 10 17th January 2010 Somerset Cup 2nd Round
The Under 14's hosted Walcot in the second round and put on a magnificent display. They played yet again a physically bigger side and acquitted themselves with pride and honour.
The game started with a breakaway try by Walcot’s No 8, which stung Clevedon into life. The forwards were in fine form. Winning rucks and mauls at will. They were there in numbers every time. This marauding play saw an aggressive driving maul with Ryan Brown crossing the line. This young man keeps improving; when his fitness is high he will be a problem for any opposition.
Walcot struck back with another try from a crafty bit of play from their No 8, again hooking the ball from the side of a ruck, picking up and sprinting to cross the line.
Clevedon refused to bow down and came again in the second half, this time down the slope. They were superb in the loose with the ever-present loose forwards of Warren and Holmes causing mayhem. Callum Jenkins had a fine match making several penetrating runs.
In the backs the tackling was ferocious. Elliott Poulter bravely putting himself as the last man, which saved a certain try. He unfortunately sustained an injury to the face and left the pitch. George Doughty the captain at hooker, scored Clevedons second with a powerful drive after numerous mauls and rucks.
Ali Balcombe at fly half and out of position gave a man of the match performance distributing the ball well. He showed fantastic discipline in the face of what can only be called abrasive behaviour. Well done.
The whole team gave the opposition, who came along expecting to walk all over Clevedon, a very torrid time. After 4 weeks with no game or training they were truly awesome.
The final score was 21-10. Next week Clevedon U14s play Bristol Saracens at home.

Clevedon III 33 Nailsea & Backwell II 20 19th December 2009 By Mike Thomas
This was one of the few games played in North Somerset due to the weather. Nailsea were under pressure in the early stages but Clevedon could not convert their pressure into points. Nailsea raced into a 17 points lead before the reliable boot of veteran Neil O'Rourke kicked a penalty. This was quickly followed by an Allan Dunn try from a tap penalty O'Rourke converted. Now it was game on with the slope in Clevedon's favour second half.
Clevedon soon added to their score when Dave Burns scorched over for a try. O'Rourke then kicked a penalty to put Clevedon into the lead. Nailsea hit back with a penalty to regain the lead. Back came Clevedon and a good handling movement ended with matt Harris scoring a try which O'Rourke converted. clevedon finished with a flourish with dan Hand scoring a try and skipper O'Rourke kicking a penalty. A good well earned win.
Happy Christmas Evs, hope you're coming back for the Boxing Day run! All the best, Crunch & Jane XX

The only querky thing to report about this match was that it finished at 16:30 with one of those lovely Clevedon sunsets disappearing fast.
Due to a seemingly bad neck injury to the Mary's scrum half and with a first responder and ambulance in attendance, this game was delayed for a wee while so they could remove him from the pitch without further injury. Fortunately, Portchi has no lasting damage and is recovering at home according to Maggot's dispatch on the St. Mary's discussion board. Good news indeed.

Mentioned should also be made of the mature and calm way referee Smudger Smith handled this incident. Without his quiet authority and diplomacy, this game could have been abandoned causing all sorts of problems later on in the season. Good on yer Smudge!!
On Wednesday Clevedon are away to Cleve in the quarter final of the combination Cup, kick off 19:30 and next Saturday, Clevedon are away to Torquay. Coach leaves at 11:15 and the kick off is at 14:30.

Clevedon 7 Paignton 13 28th November 2009

Team: T.Thie, C.Cates, M.Lowis, T. O'Rourke, S.Johns, B.Hazeldine, J.Williams, J.Potts(c), G.Carpenter, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, D.Rawle, O.Biggins, H.Russell. Replacements: N.Hudson, B.Kemp, A.Vailes
The logistics of playing at the school are always a problem and this week was no exception. For a start you need willing Saturday morning rope stringers and flag erectors. Secondly, you need enough transport to ferry the rugby playing paraphernalia to the school and thirdly and most importantly, you need a bunch of final whistle helpers to get the rope in, pick up the litter, strapping and the discarded plastic energy drink(?) bottles that have been left behind. In an ideal world this would be lots of different people, but this week some poor old sucker was left to do most of the post match stuff by himself, although to be fair some people did help by collecting the flags in.
Whether it was the impending darkness that made people scurry off to the welcoming clubhouse bar I don't know. What I do know is that the lonely litter picker was a forlorn sight, struggling as he was with all his new found possessions. He brings it on himself though, because he just can't say no to nuffink. I think he secretly enjoys doing his bit - what a little treasure this person is!!

On a more rantless note, this was the first time Clevedon had played on the recently relaid and sloping school pitch, so it was not really an advantage to them - it was just like playing away really. However, Clevedon did do enough in this match to win it but in the final analysis rued a few costly and entirely self-inflicted mistakes.
At the end of the match you could tell that the game was a close run thing, because Paignton celebrated very loudly knowing that they had achieved a good away win and more importantly had moved on up the table, while Clevedon still sit in mid-table waiting for their next league win.
Next Saturday, Clevedon are away to Sidmouth. Kick off 14:30. Coach leaves at 11:15.

Newton Abbot 23 Clevedon 12 14th November 2009

Team: B.Hazeldine, C.Cates, M.Lowis, S.Johns, J.Kaniecki, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts(c), G.Carpenter, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, J.Shopland, O.Biggins, H.Russell. Replacements: J.Williams, J.Russell, S.Johnson
Ace away photographer Kevin Weaver, who has recently completed 40 years service at Rolls Royce, was rewarded with a brand new camera that he proudly takes with him every where he goes. It is rumoured that he sleeps with it under his pillow. He loves it so much that I fear it is affecting his sanity.

As the only decently equipped photographer on the coach and with millyuns of avid webite followers, Weave has to deliver the goods, except that this week he didn't. So besotted is he with his new fangled digital equipment that he forgot the one thing that the camera needs - the specialised battery he left charging on his bedside cabinet. Wot a plonker.
Fortunately, a few phone pictures were grabbed by the marvellously inventive Clevedon touch judge. Weave will not forget this in a hurry, but then again he just might!

Next Sunday, Clevedon are away to Tor in the Somerset Cup. Kick off 14:00.

Clevedon 29 Ivybridge 5 6th November 2009

Team: B.Hazeldine, C.Cates, M.Lowis, S.Johns, J.Kaniecki, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts(c), G.Carpenter, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, D.Rawle, O.Biggins, H.Russell. Replacements: J.Williams, R.Birkin, S.Johnson
This was the first ever meeting between Clevedon and Ivybridge and Clevedon didn't quite know what to expect. What they got was a large pack with an even larger, fit looking prop and a set of backs keen on running the ball.

Despite this, Clevedon played really well and dominated the first half in all aspects of the game, but only led 16 nil at the break after letting some clear-cut chances go begging.
Unfortunately, Ivybridge lost the services of their giant prop just after half time because he was still a bit groggy from taking a knock late on in the first half. He was felled by an accidental boot, flush on his jaw whilst making a tackle and laid on the ground like a modern day Gulliver. The sight of the diminutive Clevedon physio kneeling beside him was comical to say the least. Thankfully, he recovered enough to chat (but not drink beer) in the bar afterwards and to promise a more difficult return match later in the season.

Next Saturday, Clevedon are away to Newton Abbot. Coach leaves at 11:00, kick off 14:30.

Hartpury College 53 Clevedon 8 31st October 2009

Team: B.Hazeldine, C.Cates, M.Lowis, T.O'Rourke, J.Kaniecki, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts(c), J.Williams, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, D.Rawle, O.Biggins, H.Russell. Replacements: N.Hudson, N.George, C.Alexander.

The Hartpury number 7 was voted their MOTM by the Clevedon team who honoured his achievement by giving him The Leg of Death to drink. He managed to drink a little before passing it on to his back row mate who a drank a little bit more. The Leg of Death was finally completed by yet another mate, who had obviously drawn the short straw. He finished the leg's dregs together with assorted detritus from the toe end and he wasn't best pleased to be doing it either.
It took debutant James Williams to show them how to do it and to prove that you can still drink and keep fit at the same time.
Next Saturday, Clevedon are at home to Ivybridge. Kick off 14:30.

Clevedon 8 Cullumpton 26 24th October 2009

Team: M.Lowis, G.Cherrington, S.Johns, T.O'Rourke, J.Kaniecki, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts(c), N.Tucker, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, H.Russell, O.Biggins, D.Rawle. Replacements: A.Fox, N.George, C.Alexander.
The Cullompton team brought a club house full of supporters with them for this match who enjoyed watching their side take their chances clinically and at pace.
Clevedon had no answer to Culltompton's speed out wide and were also undone by some silly mistakes and defensive errors. Despite this, Clevedon did spend large spells of this match in the Cullompton half but couldn't break through their determined defence. When all efforts failed close to the line, Clevedon contrived to give Cullumpton turnover ball rather than score a try, much to the frustration of the watching home crowd.
There were some good performances dotted about the team though, but not enough to take this game away from Cullompton who headed back down the motorway with two more points.
Next Saturday, Clevedon are away to Hartpury College. Coach leaves at 11:00 and the kick off is at 14:30.

Clevedon 22 Yatton 3 17th October 2009

Team: M.Lowis, G.Cherrington, S.Johns, T.O'Rourke, C.Cates, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts(c), G.Carpenter, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, R.Birkin, H.Russell, O.Biggins. Replacements: J.Williams, D.Rawle, J.Kaniecki.
The villagers of Yatton arrived in force to support their team in this keenly awaited local derby league match.
They gathered together on the touchline like a huddle of Emporer Penquins keeping themselves warm and a noisy lot they were too. The poor old Clevedon touch judge got a right old ear bashing in that sort friendly, brotherly way that they have. Just as well he's half deaf, otherwise he might have got upset about it.
This is always a lively fixture and so it proved on a dry and sunny day with a few handbags flying around. Clevedon failed to gather the kick off and were left defending for the first five minutes. After that their back play created all sorts of trouble for Yatton, particularly from Lowis at full back who fielded and returned every wayward kick that came his way. I can exclusievly report that he was an extremely tired man after the match and in need of some reviving nectar to get his strength back.
The half time whistle had Clevedon 12-3 in front and rueing a few turnovers and wayward final passes, but it didn't seem to matter. The second half saw Clevedon have an 80-20 advantage territorially and running everything to score two more tries for a good home win. When at last Yatton ventured into the Clevedon 22 a Yatton wit summed it up by saying "I'm glad about that, I just was beginning to get a cricked neck looking one way all the time". "Me too" said his mate "Me too". Enough said.

Next Saturday, Clevedon are playing Cullumpton. Kick off 15:00.

Chosen Hill 17 Clevedon 50 10th October 2009

Team: M.Lowis, B.Hazeldine, S.Johns, T.O'Rourke, C.Cates, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts(c), G.Carpenter, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, R.Birkin, H.Russell, O.Biggins. Replacements: J.Williams, N.Hudson, J.Kaniecki.
It was a real pleasure visiting Chosen Hill for the first time. On a warm and sunny day they made the visiting supporters welcome with some lovely pre-match grub and a nice pint to go with it.
The team coach had arrived about an hour and a half before kick off, which gave the thirstier travellers a chance to indulge in some serious hydration before stepping out into the burning sun.
During the match, the sun was so fierce that they continued their thirst-quenching until the final whistle and were royally rewarded with a good Clevedon away win in Gloucester. Not often that happens.
By the time coach left for Clevedon the happy bunch of imbibers had given the Chosen Hill bar a massive surge in takings and were welcome back there any time!
Clevedon's game next Saturday is at home to Yatton that well renowned village side. Kick off 15:00.

Clevedon 10 Brixham 25 3rd October 2009

Team: M.Lowis, B.Hazeldine, R.Biggins, T.O'Rourke, S.Johns, T.Thie, S.Johnson, J.Potts(c), D.Williams, B.Stone, R.Smith, B.Chase, W.Wheeler, H.Russell, O.Biggins. Replacements: J.Williams, C.Cates, R.Birkin.
Clevedon did a great job in the first half against the gale force wind to hold unbeaten Brixham to a 10-5 lead. They played controlled and sensible rugby after going down 7-0 within five minutes of the start and ended the half on top.
The second half was an altogether different affair. Clevedon's plan was to kick to the windy corner and to play from there. Unfortunately, the first attempt, a long wickedly bouncing kick, went dead. Clevedon had to come all the way back to their own 22 and 3 minutes conceded a try after Brixham stole a Clevedon five metre lineout. After that there seemed to be some sort of collective short circuiting because Clevedon did not kick to the corner much after that, seemingly lacking the confidence to do so. However, they did get close enough for a couple of wind assisted penalty misses.
Brixham sealed the game in 17th minute of the second half with their converted third try.
Clevedon battled on and scored their second try 4 minutes later to trail 10-25, with plenty of time to grab some more. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain as the 48 minute second half came to an end. A disappointing finish against a good Brixham team that are now the new league leaders.
Clevedon's game next Saturday is away to Chosen Hill Former Pupils. Coach leaves at 11:15. Kick off 15:00.

Clevedon 33 Torquay Athletic 7 19th September 2009

Team: M.Lowis, B.Hazeldine, R.Biggins, S.Johns, G.Cherrington, T.Thie, J.Williams, J.Potts(c), B.Stone, R.Smith, W.Wheeler, H.Russell, O.Biggins, D.Rawle. Replacements: D.Williams, S.Johnson, N.Hudson
The excellent pre-match hospitality by the No Necks laid the foundations for this superb win by a rampant Clevedon side. They ensured people were suitably relaxed beforehand and in the right mood to shout encouragement to the team. The half time port livened them up for second half, but by this time the heavier No Necks were basking on the grass and soaking up the sunshine without a care in the world.

Torquay fielded a huge pack, several of whom dwarfed even the most corpulent No Neck, so Clevedon had to move the game around a bit to avoid getting drawn into a forward dominated game. The defence against the Riveria side was immense with the missed tackle count non-existent. A great start to the season needs to continue next Saturday away to Avonmouth. Kick off is at 15:00.
Clevedon's game that was scheduled for this Tuesday evening against Old Reds at the Portway Rugby Centre, has been CANCELLED.

Clevedon managed to hang on to this game despite playing with less than the full compliment of men for the last 8 minutes. Nellie's Corner (see here) got a pounding as the home side tried desperately to score again after an 80 yard interception put them within a couple of scores.
Next week Clevedon are at home to Torquay Athletic. Kick off is at 15:00 with the match being sponsored and hosted by the legendary No Necks.

The summer training and pre-season trials had gone well and Clevedon were full of confidence going in to this match - they just needed to perform well to justify their optimism.
With their new, fetching lycra strip, Clevedon were untouchable in this match playing some exciting, forceful rugby with a defence that will be hard to crack this season.
With some players having to squeeze into the new shirt, it was comical watching them putting them on before the match. On some players they fitted like a glove and on others they showed every contour of their honed physiques - enough said!
Anyway, S'Nives travelled back to Cornwall knowing that they would have to wait until the last game of the season to try and gain revenge for this away defeat. The only thing they can be confident about is that Clevedon will be bringing a herd of supporters to try and prevent this happening.
Next week Clevedon are away to St. Mary's Old Boys. PLEASE NOTE: Kick off is at 14:30.

| The Pictures of the Summer |
|

|
|
These pictures typify the nonsense that went on at the club during the Lions series earlier in the summer.
The shirt on the right, worn by No Neck in Chief John "Fordie" Ford is a 40 inch chest and belongs to that hairy git on the left who paid an enormous sum of money for a genuine Lions playing shirt.
Those present obviously thought the HG wasn't daft enough to do that, so to prove that it was indestructable and the genuine article, Fordie tried it on. As you can see the shirt survived his 56 inch frame (with gusset) and shrunk back magically to its original weedy size with no lasting damage.
The point was proved that the skinny, bony and hirstute idiot had indeed bought the genuine article and obviously has more money than sense.

4th April 2010 Bridgwater Colts 10 Clevedon Colts 28
Clevedon Colts continued their unbeaten run brushing aside a confident Bridgwater team, with a controlled and tactical performance. Straight from the kick Clevedon made their intentions clear with Matthew Carpenter gathering the ball and dancing through the Bridgwater defence, only to be brought down short of the line. Clevedon quickly recycled the ball and up popped Carpenter again to score a fine try, which was converted by older brother Will Carpenter.
At this stage they looked more like Bridge over troubled Water, but they soon hit back with a try of their own. Clevedon quickly re-grouped and were back in control with tactical kicking and calculated moves. It wasn't long before they were back on the score sheet with a try from the Wing Wizard Joe Saunders soon followed by Jack Hughs, both converted by Carpenter Senior. Clevedon finished the half with a try from the mercurial Dave Burns, which was also converted by Carpenter.
In the second half Clevedon had to defend in terrible conditions and kept Bridgy to just one try. Some running repairs to the team from Nurse Squires kept the team together.
A great performance from the unsung heros of the second row Ben Squires and Dan Beasant and clever play from Scrum Half Will Clemesha added to this all round team performance with Man Of The Match Matthew Carpenter a constant thorn in the side of the opposition. Many thanks to the travelling supporters. By Neil Tucker

20th April 2010 Clevedon Colts 5 North Petherton 0
This was the Colts first game in 4 weeks due to cancellations, but they took to the field with attitude and a renewed confidence. The early exchanges where even with both sides seeing plenty of the ball, but it was the Clevedon forwards that took charge of the game. The scrum was immense and with the line out working well and ball boy Charlie Tucker keeping the ball dry for the man mountain Gary Carpenter meant good ball for the Clevedon backs who whre a permanent threat to the opposition. With the game poised at 0-0 at half time Clevedon where determined to get on the score sheet, but the away sides defense held firm.
A man of the match performance from Harley Foley and resolute tackling form the ever present Jack Hughes and Yogi Jones kept the Clevedon side moving forward. It wasn't until the last 10 minuets that Clevedon finally broke through. A well work move saw Sam Teal work well with Foley to put Joe (Colonel)Saunders in for the only try. This was a great victory for the team who have worked well at training under the watchful eye of team coach Neil Tucker. By Neil Tucker

| Player Reunion Update |
|
Hi All,
Just a quick update on the reunion scheduled for the August Bank Holiday weekend.
We now have over 200 people coming, which is a fantastic number. However, there are still a lot of people we haven`t got hold of yet.
If you've already confirmed that you will be attending, I'm am sure that you can contact at least one other person and provide their e-mail address or phone number. Some of you have probably told friends on Facebook or one those other new-fangled social networking sites like "getalife.com", but I need to know the names!
There are also a few on my list who haven`t let me know if they are coming or not - it's just like running the 2nds a few years ago!
Over the next few months please keep checking the website for information and updates. I will also keep you informed by e-mail. We will also be running a "Where are they now" spot on this website (well voluntered Crunch) with photos and a list of people who we haven`t had any contact with.
Please update this or let me know any contact details. A couple of things finally to remember:
- The pig roast has been booked - the veggie option is an empty roll
- You will also need to nominate a designated drunk for the night so you get home safely
- Please e-mail me any pictures, cuttings or stories you might have and we can stick them up on the night and on the website
Speak to you soon, Ross

| Club Development Work Started |
|
16th November 2009 Chairman Chris Williams writes
It gives me pleasure to inform you that after a great deal of effort and commitment, we have finally received the RFU grant award letter towards the redevelopment of the clubhouse and changing facilities. The total cost of the works is now budgeted and the Clevedon R.F.C. committee have secured 82% of the funding.
The remainder is being obtained through further grant applications to various funding bodies and from a series of sponsorship opportunities and fund raising initiatives outlined in a letter sent recently to the business community. If you would like a copy of this letter please phone Paul Squires.
As is apparent, there is still some way to go to meet the total project costs. In response to this a Club Development Fundraising Committee has been established, which is being chaired by General Manager Paul Squires.
As part of the fundraising efforts the committee will be establishing a database of companies that are being contacted, if you are aware of any companies that you feel might be interested in taking up any of the sponsorship opportunities highlighted please contact myself or Paul Squires.
I would urge you all to support as best you can, any fundraising activities, directly or indirectly that arise as we look to provide a fantastic new clubhouse and changing room facility for the benefit of all our members, whether senior or junior, social or playing.
Thank you in advance for you help and perseverance over the coming months in what are exciting times for the club and its members.
The various sponsorship and fund raising options are as follows:
- Re-development sponsorship
- Gold, Silver or Bronze package
- Business Advertising Package
- Signage around pitch side for all home games
- For the remainder of the current season and for next season.
- Quality Raffle Prize Donation
- Donate a Prize to our Grand Boxing Day Draw
- Sponsor a Plank
- Sponsor the construction of the new skittle alley
- Donations
- Any amount, no matter how large or small
As a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), Clevedon Rugby Club are able to claim Gift Aid on any donations, thereby increasing the donation by an extra 28% for a basic-rate tax payer.

Clevedon U15 44 Yatton U15 0 4th October 2009

|
|
Captain Matt Bailey
Clevedon played host to Yatton, captained by Matt Bailey for the day. Clevedon took control of the game. Good passing from the backs fed a very good pass to winger Freddie Knight who scored the first of three tries. The forwards were not to be outdone and a combination of close play and a rolling maul brought the forwards very close to the Yatton line with flanker George Thorne diving over. Scrum half Joe Tucker broke away for a solo effort to score the fifth try giving Clevedon a half time lead of 27 - 0.
Yatton never gave up the fight and came back with a lot of character in the second half, but again strong play from the Clevedon forwards and a break from hooker Aaron Mason for his first try of the season. A combination of good foot skills and handling gave Tom Francis his try. Hallum Bosley concluded the days business with a well executed try.
The MOTM was Aaron Mason

|
|
Redman on Fire
Clevedon travelled to Bristol for the first match of the new season against Dings. All the pre season training and fitness sessions really paid off. The squad was looking the best it had looked for a long time and that reflected in the match.
Clevedon got off to a flying start with the first of three try's from Winger Jake Redman within the first minute of the match. Clevedon continued to apply pressure, backs combining well with the forwards, with tries coming at regular intervals. Taking the score at half time to 24-5 to Clevedon.
The second half gave Clevedon the opportunity to test out the replacements and the team continued to apply pressure and further tries followed. New player Harry Sheppard scored a fantastic solo try to increase Clevedon's lead.
Tries: J. Redman 3, P.Trower 1, J.Legg 1, J.Tucker 1, H.Sheppard 1, M.Vicarage 1, A.Mason 1. Conversions: J.Tucker 1, G.Harris 3.

John and Carol hosted their leaving do and a busy old affair it was to. Lots of the silver hair brigade were out way past their bed time to send them off in style. They were also joined by a smattering of ex-pupils who fondly remembered Mr. Evs teaching them, particularly on the rugby field!
We wish you well in your new life Evs - just keep in touch that's all.

...for their total commitment to Clevedon Rugby Club for the past 35 years.
John and Carol are hosting their leaving party at the club on Friday 21st August from 19:00 onwards. They are looking forward to meeting as many people as possible before they leave for Canterbury at the end of the month.
It will be an emotional night where the tears will be flowing faster than Evs can run these days. There will also be plenty of speeches, reminisces and stories bandied about, so if you want to find out something new then this is the event for you.
Come on down and let's give the Evs's's' a right proper send off.
