Clevedon lost yet another vital league game in their quest to stave off relegation. In wet conditions Maidenhead who have only lost one game since Christmas, hit Clevedon hard in the first quarter, while Clevedon were still on the bus. They took the lead with a grubber kick through the Clevedon defence to score a converted try. Then a spate of missed tackles let Maidenhead in again for a try. From the resulting restart pressure by Clevedon caused the hosts to give away a penalty, which Dan Hawkes converted. A mix up in midfield and woeful tackling helped Maidenhead increase their lead with two more tries, one being converted.

A counter attack by Maidenhead came unstuck when Tom Thie intercepted a pass to score a try, which Hawkes converted. Back came Maidenhead with a converted push over try. Clevedon hit back with a well worked move at the lineout enabling James Morgan to score in the corner, with Hawkes converting superbly from the touchline. Right on half time Maidenhead increased their lead with a converted try. Maidenhead led 38-17 at the break

Clevedon's second half performance was much better with veteran fullback Adi Freeman controlling the Clevedon defence pattern. Both sides had chances to enhance their scoreline but defence on both sides stood firm, with Clevedon much improved. Ashley Vailes put in some big hits in midfield, while John Pearce and James Shopland were outstanding in the pack. The only score in the second half was a converted try for Maidenhead from a tapped penalty. With two league games remaining, Clevedon need all the support they can get. <
