The opening quarter saw Clevedon take the game to Weston and Clevedon should have taken the lead, but it was not to be. A good handling movement broke down when Clevedon knocked the ball on with the line at their mercy. Having defended well, a swift handling movement saw Weston score a try in the corner, completely against the run of play. This was quickly followed by a Weston kick bouncing fortuitously for them to gather and score a converted try under the posts.
The young Clevedon side did not let their heads drop and a penalty by Dan Hawkes saw Clevedon go into the break 12-3 down.
In the second half Clevedon's forwards continued to give the backs a regular supply of possession, but far too much ball was kicked away or passes dropped in midfield. Confusion gifted Weston a third try, which was converted. Weston then had 3 players yellow carded. Clevedon hit back straight away with a well worked try for veteran lock Jeff Durant, which Hawkes converted. Clevedon now in the driving seat made the mistake of kicking the ball away against 12 men. Weston held on until the final whistle, but Clevedon's boys can hold their heads up high with the Clevedon forwards deserving a pat on the back. Ashley Vailes in midfield was outstanding.
