President Michael Thomas Reports:
Clevedon 0   Clifton 20

21st January 2006

Early pressure was applied by Clifton, especially from the lineout and as a result Clifton took an early lead with a penalty. Although Clevedon were under the cosh, their defence, especially in midfield with Vailes and O'Rourke were superb.

Clevedon gradually go their lineout together and this brought them more into the game. A penalty by Dan Hawkes failed to find touch and the counter attack again put Clevedon under pressure.

When Clevedon got into an attacking position their execution was not good enough to cross the visitors line. Clifton led 3-0 at half time, due to a dogged performance by the young Clevedon side.

The second half started with both sides trying to play open rugby, but both defences were well on top. From a good attacking move Clifton increased their lead with a converted try under the posts. Clevedon then hit back with a purple patch, with James Morgan taking five strikes against the head in the scrums. Dan Filby again played well at scrum half and showed some neat touches. Simon Johns yet another youngster defended well and is gaining in confidence in attack. Clifton kicked their second penalty, The Clifton pack was showing signs of tiring and James Shopland and Neil Tucker kept the Clevedon pack going forward. Joe Williams, yet another 18 year old showed promise. Deep into injury time Clifton scored their second converted try to win a hard earned victory. A good game with both sides deserving praise.
