Clevedon made a bright start to the game after a poor display last week. They took an early lead through a Dan Hawkes penalty. Cheltenham who always looked threatening through their big forwards took the lead with a catch and drive at the lineout to score a try. Clevedon were knocked out of their stride by this and went through a spate of missed tackles. Dan Hawkes kicked his second penalty to restore Clevedon's lead. Clevedon now applied the pressure and started to dominate, but could not cross the Cheltenham line. A fine break by Dan Filby resulted in a long pass by Hawkes being intercepted for a Cheltenham player to run the length of the field to score a try under the posts, which was converted. For a while the Clevedon heads went down, the scrum started to creak and the lineout was not functioning as well as normal.
The second half showed Clevedon in a more positive mood. A quickly taken tap penalty near their own line saw Clevedon handle the ball the length of the field, where they took another quick tap penalty, resulting in Piers Hopkins scoring a try in the corner. Hawkes redeemed himself with a conversion from the touch line. Clevedon now led 13-12. A blindside break Filby and good work by Simon Johns put Captain Neil Tucker over for a good try. Mistakes were made by both sides, but Clevedon's tackling improved and big hits were put in by Neil Bridle, Ashley Vailes and Tom O'Rourke. Cheltenham threw everything into attack, but a dropped ball in mid-field was kicked on by Ashley Vailes and Steve Barns following up notched the try, which Hawkes converted to give Clevedon a much needed win.
