Clevedon fielded a young side due to a few late cry offs. Going to Clifton was a challenge in itself and although the result went against them they gave a creditable performance. Clifton took the lead with a penalty. They had ample possession but it was obvious from the start that Clevedon would have a great deal of defending to do. Clevedon looked committed and deservedly drew level with a Dan Hawkes penalty. Again Clevedon's lineout was superb, with McMillan and Shopland like two salmon, aided by the excellent pitching of James Morgan. Eventually Clifton broke down the Clevedon defence with a try in the corner, after some desperate tackling by Steve Johnson who had a good game at full back. He was then yellow carded for a technical offence. Clifton kicked a penalty to lead 11-3 at half time.
The second half started with Dan Hawkes receiving a yellow card for another technical offence, so Clevedon were down to 13 men for a couple of minutes. Clifton made use of this and a blind side break saw Clifton increasing their lead with a converted try. Clevedon never gave up and the tireless work by Shopland, Tucker and Stone, with a stout performance by Dauncey helped Clevedon keep their heads high. Clifton added a penalty and two late converted tries. Clevedon have now played the top teams in the league. This performance gave hope and with young backs like O'Rourke, Thie and Excell playing with confidence will help to see Clevedon through this barren patch.
The next league game is at home to Penryn on the 12th November, kick off 14:30.
