AC: Tom Excell has scored his try surrounded by Chippenham

Clevedon played attacking rugby from the first whistle and due to over complication failed to cross the try line. They did take the lead with a Dan Hawkes penalty. On occasions Clevedon kicked away good possession. Against the run of play Chippenham who had defended well, took the lead with a catch and drive at the lineout, which Clevedon found hard to defend. This was converted. Chippenham became inspired from this and now took the game to Clevedon and straight away began the rolling maul. Before the interval Clevedon regained the lead with a sharp try by scrum half Tom Excell, who took a quick tapped penalty. The easy conversion was missed.

The second half started with Clevedon losing turn over ball and the Chippenham fullback scored a fine individual try, which was converted. Clevedon had ample possession from the lineout, but the backs could not get their act together and squandered numerous opportunities. Chippenham increased their lead with a penalty, but Hawkes reduced the deficit with his own penalty.

Due to injuries the game went into uncontested scrums and ended on a low with Clevedon still in with a chance of winning the game. but their ball retention let them down.

The next league game is at away to Clifton on the 29th October, kick off 15:00.
