Clevedon started brightly with Dan Hawkes kicking astutely to the corners. A slick handling movement by Chinnor resulted in Clevedon conceding a penalty, which was converted. A good break by Tom O'rourke came to nothing through lack of support. Chinnors' backs were a slick outfit and scored two tries in quick succession, one being converted, Better handling by Clevedon would have resulted in points, but they too often kicked the ball away instead of going for the try line. Before the break Chinnor ran in two more converted tries to lead 29- 0.
Harsh words by coach Mark Hawkes and the introduction of Tom Excell and James Russell seemed to do the trick for Clevedon. They played with far more urgency and the lineout was good with McMillan and Shopland doing well, while the scrums were solid. Mike Lowis was back on form and for 25 minutes Clevedon were in the Chinnor half but were unable to score. It was only when Clevedon were reduced to 14 men through injury that Chinnor ran in two late tries and kicked a penalty to secure their deserved win. There was a great deal of heart to be taken from the second half performance, which will hopefully be built upon during training this week.
The next league game is at home to Oxford Harlequins on the 8th October, kick off 15:00.
