This was Clevedon's first league fixture against the might of Weston. The early session was even, but Clevedon's lack of discipline nearly cost them a penalty. A good attacking movement by Clevedon was thwarted by a kick aheadd , which resulted in a superb counter attack, which resulted in a long range try for Weston. Clevedon hit back with a well struck penalty by Steve Johnson. Clevedon dominated the scrums, but struggled in the lineout and before half time Weston increased their lead with a penalty. Ashley Vailes suffered a serious injury and was replaced by veteran Chris Page.
The second half started with a bang and Weston increased their lead with two more penalties. Turnover ball was won by Weston enabling them to score their second converted try. The Clevedon forwards played valiantly to the end and superb work by James Shopland and dave Rawle showed what Clevedon had to offer. Tom Thie and Tom O'Rourke attacked and defended ferociously. Clevedon can only learn from this defeat/
Next week Clevedon are looking for a friendly fixture.
