There are some things you can't coach, but there are things that great teams have . Nobody knows the recipe for them but if they did they would make a fortune. Those things include courage, heart, passion, pride and team spirit but all of those words fall short of describing what the spectators saw from Clevedon in this match.

Facing the team that had won this competition for the last 4 years (disposing of Clifton 45-10 in last years final) was always going to be a huge task. Chippenham also had the luxury of fielding all 9 of their county stars, 4 of which have been named in the south west squad. Clevedon on the other hand named their usual 8 under 15 players to travel into Wiltshire.

For the whole of the first half Chippenham's physical team threw everything at Clevedon, not all of it being legal, but the brave young Clevedon team did not buckle. Tackle after tackle was made with Moore, and Gadd preventing certain tries. The Clevedon forwards were outstanding as the cup holders tried to out muscle them but led by the outstanding Cooper and Catt, no one took a backward step as tackle upon tackle was made, with Chapman and Jones Driving men back at every opportunity.

Gary Carpenter was everywhere, making tackles and hitting rucks, with Marshall and Daley never far behind. When half time came Clevedon were battered but Chippenham were wondering how they had only managed to score two tries.

During the half time interval the coaches were not needed as Nicholls and Cooper rallied the Troops and made it clear that there were two sides in this game. The second half started with a Chippenham break and only a breathtaking tackle from Halibourton saved Clevedon, five minutes of further pressure were soaked up before an excellent kick by Haines, followed by an excellent tackle by Cooper gave Clevedon good field position. From there they rucked, with Marshall, Catt and Shepperd all Carrying the ball well through several phases of play, before the Playmaker Carpenter released the back line with Haines and Wedlake making no mistake in putting Halibourton over for his 4th try in 2 games.

It was then time to defend again with Gaddi and Halliburton stopping another certain try before another break from Clevedon saw Wedlake slice the defence wide open and head for the line only to be stopped 2 yards short of the posts.

Unfortunately Clevedon never made it over the Chippenham try line again but they can take plenty away from this game, with every player having given 110%. There will be other semi finals for this team and no doubt plenty of finals. M-O-M the whole team, superb.
