Exmouth  3  Clevedon Colts 10
3rd December 2005
Report by Ross Brace

Clevedon travelled to sunny Devon on Saturday and were met by a torrential downpour and a pitch that resembled a swimming pool. Both sides tried to play as much expansive as was possible and it was Clevedon who started the best with Jo Williams and the games outstanding player Tom O Connell making yards at will. With halfbacks Chris Bird and Rory Biggins calling the shots Clevedon attacked in waves with Props Paul Button and Chris Alexander well to the fore. After more good driving play by Kyle Vickery and Nick Thorne an Exmouth infringement led to a Rory Biggin's penalty. This was quickly followed by an excellent break by James O Connor, But the referee could not keep up with his sheering pace and disallowed the try from 40 yards away. The rest of the half continued in the same vein and only desperate defence and mistakes kept Clevedon out, until Jo Williams cut an excellent angle to score under the posts, which Biggins duly converted.

10 -0 at the oranges but Clevedon should really have been out of sight. But Exmouth scenting a victory threw everything at the visitors in the second half but the defence well marshalled by Harvey Russell and Tom Bullimore, stood watertight. Exmouth for all their pressure kicked a solitary penalty just before the end and never really threatened the visitors line. A good win on the road this for the colts lets hope the weather improves for this reporter as my trench foot needs dry weather
