Clevedon's depleted side met a very well organised and accomplished Reds team on a great day for rugby at the Vale. Clevedon's youthful pack of Hill, Robinson, Harvey and Si Dunn did not take long to start bossing the set piece, but it was a good break from Freeman and Hand who created great field position for O'Rourke, then Dauncey to go close before Si Dunn charged over from 6 inches.

Clevedon then soaked up a Reds spell of pressure with fantastic tackling from Wheeler, Hudson and Murray creating a constant stream of turnovers, one of these allowed Bomber Biggins to break free and release the injury free Chris Cates for his 1st try of the game. Reds answered this with a ten minute spell of pressure on the Clevedon line, but in injury time with the Captain Dauncey screaming to get the ball off the park, Dunn released Cates behind his own line and he went the length of the field to make it 17-0 at half time.

The introduction of Hughes and Johnson at half time had immediate affect as Reds scored there first try after a questionable knock on judgement. Johnson then showed why he is the top try scorer for the 1st XV by linking up well with Cates before taking the return pass and destroying the whole Reds back line and going in under the posts. He then followed up ten minutes later by hitting the line at a great angle to waltz in from 40 yards out.

Rob Cates was then introduced to the game and decided to even things up and promote his first team case by getting himself sin binned after a record 38 seconds, surely a career in pancake flipping would suit him. Reds with an extra man to even the game up, launched a great spell of pressure and never looked like scoring until the last play of the game when a tiring Clevedon conceded one to many penalties and the Reds snuck in.

Another great team performance and the runaway train that is Clevedon's 2nd Xv keeps on rolling, but will have to improve when they meet the also unbeaten Hornets next week.
