Clevedon had to reshuffle their with late cry offs by Jeff Durant, John Potts and Tom O'Rourke. Clevedon took a while to settle and were not at the races during the first quarter, which belonged to Keynsham. Keynsham raced into a 15-0 lead with two tries, one being converted, and a penalty. Clevedon lost Neil Tucker with a hand injury and veteran Nick Hill seemed to add some bite to the Clevedon performance. The remainder of the half belonged to Clevedon with Robert Cates being unlucky not to have crossed for a couple of tries. Young fly half Daniel Hawkes kicked a penalty for Clevedon. A good handling and supporting movment saw Owen Biggns go over for a try. Clevedon then on the stroke of half time destroyed a keynsham scrum for Biggins to poach his second try. This was converted from the toucjline by Hawkes to give a half time score of 15-15.
The first quarter of thesecond half saw Clevedon hammer away at the Keynsham line, but despite some superb lineout play, Clevedon could not score. Inevitably, keynsham came back to kick a penalty and score a try to lead 23-15. This young Clevedon side did not give up and a break by Ashley Vailes saw Wayne MacMillan sprint 30 yards for a try in the corner. Youth at the end of the day saved the agme for Clevedon when Hawkes kicked a penalty from the half way to level the scores. This result now secures South West One rugby next season. There were pluses and negatives, the worst being missed first time tackles.
The next league match is home to Gloucester Old Boys on the 23rd April, kick off 15:00. This will be preceded by a Vets game against Kenilworth and a Vice President's Luncheon and succeeded by an end of season celebration in the evening, kick off 20:00.
