Clevedon desperate for points to ward of relegation resorted to youth and if they had taken their first half opportunities, they would have won the game by half time. Clevedon started in fine fashion and should have scored in the first minute, but either good defence by Maidenhead or wrong options by Clevedon kept the score board blank. The forwards produced good ball, but Clevedon still lacked the cutting edge in midfield. Richard Hughes was pulled downshort of the line and with a little bit of luck or confidence, Robert Cates could have scored a hat trick of tries. A good break by Ashley Vailes, well supported by Cates saw John Potts go over for a try. The easy conversion attempt failed. Before the interval Maidenhead took the lead with a penalty and try.
The second half saw John Potts leave the field through injury to be replaced by the veteran Nick Hill. Young Daniel hawkes making his league debut at 17 kicked a penalty to equalise. Now with Clevedon back in contention it was anyones game. Clevedon took a strike against the head and a mix up at the back of the scrum gifted Maidenhead a converted try. Maidenhead kicked two penalties to increase their lead. Clevedon, now playing catch up rugby conceded two late converted tries.
Clevedon need all the constructive support they can muster to stave off relegation, which could go right down to the wire.
