This relegation battle alwasy promised to be a cliffhanger. Clevedon took an early lead with a penalty by Paul Glen. The early session was even, but ST MAry's, with the wind at their backs and the slope in theri favour, had territorial advantage.
Clevedon missed far too many tackles in midfield and lost too many tunrnover balls. Clevedon created the good half chance, but failed to cross the home sides line. Mary's took the lead with a converted try and soon increased their lead witha penalty to lead 10-3 at the break.
Clevedon had an opportunity to score before the break whenthey took a scrun against the head, but the final pass was intercepted. A few harsh words by coach Mar Hawkes seemed to have an effect with Clevedon coming out with all guns blazing in the second period. Both sides had been yellow carded, but Clevedon's forwards were on the rampage and Paul Glen got Clevedon back into the game with his second penalty. Clevedon's defence got better and the lineout pitching of AJmes Morgan at hooker was outstanding. During Clevedon's good spell Tom O'Rourke crossed for atry for Clevedon tp take the lead. Again Clevedon's scrummage was superb with John Potts and Neil Tucker in total command. Clevedon fought hard to hold on to their lead and astrike agianst the head at the death ensured vital points for Clevedon.
