This Somerset Cup semi-final played at North Petherton was a drab affair with the cold, windy conditions not helping the apparent skills of the players. This was a typical cup local derby with Clevedon from a higher league dominating most of the game, but finding yatton more than capable of causing an upset. The pressure was always on Clevedon with yatton having nothing to loase but all to gain. yatton took the lead with a penalty by Sam Osbourne, but Clevedon, whose backs moed the ball swiftly, could not cross the line due to some stout defensive work, or lack of pace outside. Clevedon did eventually take the lead with a try by Owen Biggins after good work by their forwards. Clevedon's backs had ample opportunity to increase their lead bit over complication and bad final passes kept Yatton in the game. Before the break Ashley Vailes scored a try in the corner.
The second half showed no improvement in the skills level and good breaks by Rawle and hsopland ended with bad ball retention or poor final passes. Paul Glen increased Clevedon's lead with two penalties. yatton stuck to thier task well with good lineout work and rolling mauls. Clevedon gradually pulled away with a second Biggins try to put Clevedon in the final.
Some strange refereeing decisions agiants both sides, but the best was to play no injury time in the second half, which saved the crowd from further punishment.
