Clevedon lost valuable points, which were theirs for the taking, by performing in such an inept way first half that they deserved what they got. Right from the kick off Clevedon let the ball bounce and from the ensuing lineout, Chinnor drove over for a try. Although Clevedon had territorial advantage they could not get on the score board. Instead of kicking for goal on three occasions they kicked to the corner hoping for a ctahc and drive at the lineout. Clevedon by doing this were playing into Chinnor hands with their big pack. Having achieved nothing with this ploy it was Chinnor's time to strike again with another try from a lineout. Chinnor led 10-0 at the break.
Harsh words from coach mark Hawkes during the break seemed to have an effect with Clevedon getting first blood in the second half with Wayne MacMillan scoring atry in the corner from a rolling maul. The introduction of John Potts helped to cause problems for Chinnor in the pack. It was Chinnor who hit back with a penalty and a try from a scrum to lead 18-5. Clevedon now had a purple patch and Mike Lowis kicked a penalty and with the introduction of ex-player Paul Glen at fly half, made a try for Lowis. With 10 minutes to go it was anyone's game. Clevedon now with their tails up were looking for the win. Unfortunately, in the dying seconds a good move saw Mike Lowis go over the line, only for the ball to be dislodged from his grasp consigning Clevedon to defeat after a poor first half.
Clevedon's next match is at home to Bridgwater on Saturday, 26th February 2005, KO 14:30.
