15th January 2005

AC: Simon Johns scores the first of two weekend tries

The final score flattered the home side because it was even stevens until the final ten minutes. Maidenhead looked the sharper througout especially in the backs. Clevedon again dominated in the scrums and after 20 minutes took the lead with an excellent converted try, which stretched the Clevedon defence. Clevedon always had a possible winner in Ashley Vailes at scrum half and he was unlucky not to score just before half time. James Gallagher was replaced by Ben Gilmore due to injury.

The second half saw Clevedon plugging away but unable to score. Clevedon's defence again, although stretched to the limit on occasions, kept the hosts out. A well worked blindside move from a scrum saw yound Simon Johns score in the corner. This brought the score to 7-5.

Unfortunately, Clevedon lost their own lineout near the Maidenhead line and the chance was lost. Maidenhead then proved that fitness was going to be the winer and they kicked two penalties and two late converted tries to win comfortably in the end. If Clevedon had taken their chances they could have sneaked a result.

The next league game is away to Clifton on the 22nd January 2005.
