Considering that this was a bottom of the table clash, it was a hard gruelling battle of which Clevedon came out on top. The return of Tim Brooks in the backs and Jeff Durant in the forwards helped to steady down Clevedon's young bucks. Clevedon's discipline was excellent and coach Mark Hawkes strong words at training obviously had sunk in. The early stages were even and Keynsham not looking like a side yet to win a game. Clevedon yet again had the upper hand in the scrums and Shopland and Durant won their own lineout ball. Clevedon took the lead with a Steve Johnson penalty. If Clevedon ruck ball had been quicker the backs would've had more time to exploit the visitors defence.
The second half started with a bang and good support play saw Keynsham score a converted try to take the lead. Clevedon's heads did not go down and came straight back when skipper and full back Mike Lowis chipped through for speedy winger Tom Thie to score a try in the corner, for Clevedon to regain the lead. Clevedon's dominance in the scrums was now a feature of the game, mainly helped by the return of John Potts from suspension. Johnson kicked his second penalty for a lead of 11-7. Shortly after another kick through by Lowis resulted in Thie scoring his second try, which was converted. This seemed to ease Clevedon's problems, but Keynsham would not lie down and were still hammering the Clevedon line at the final whistle.
Next week Clevedon are at away to Cheltenham, KO 14:30. Coach leaves at 11:30. Supporters £5.00
