Clevedon playing up the slope had the better of the early exchanges with the backs having ample possession, but unable to turn possession and the territorial advantage into points. They seemed to lack the cutting edge in midfield to break down defences. With Tim Brooks and Tom O'Rourke missing from the line up, options were limited. Gloucester Old Boys well known for their driving mauls only looked dangerous with the rolling maul from the lineout. From one such lineout they took the lead with a converted try, while Clevedon were down to 14 men due a farcical yellow card decision. Clevedon's verbal discipline was vastly improved, but again another sin binning for a technical offence reduced them to 14 men again and guess what, GLOB were awarded a try for an alleged collapsing of the maul. Fourteen nil down at half time and Clevedon after having the majority of possession with the forwards scrummaging well and the back row of James Shopland, Joe Harwood and Richard Hughes outstanding. The latter now becoming of age as a first XV player.
Clevedon started the second half with a bang with Steve Johnson kicking a penalty. Good approach work saw James Shopland score a try converted by Johnson. Clevedon supporters now had something to smile about, but yes it happened again, another yellow card and another try by Gloucester Old Boys from a rolling maul. Despite this Clevedon hit back with a penalty by Johnson. Unfortunately, time ran out with Clevedon unable to finish off good approach work.
Next week Clevedon are at home to Keynsham, KO 14:30
