Clevedon went into this game with an understrength side and came unstuck against a well drilled team. From the first whistle knowledgeable supporters realised that the home side were in for a hectic time.
The visitors took an early lead through a penalty and increased their lead with a converted try with a catch and drive at the lineout. Clevedon were struggling for possession in the rucks and mauls. Albanians increased their lead with a further penalty and a converted try from a tapped penalty. Clevedon got on to the score board with a penalty by Steve Johnson. Before the break the visitors kicked another penalty to lead 23-3.
The second half nearly became a rout although Clevedon contested the scrums well and won good lineout ball. Debutant Ben Gilmore was very solid in the scrums. Clevedons backs seemed to be chasing shadows all afternoon, with the slick handling and good support play by Albanians resulting in three more converted tries, one try and two penalties. To Clevedon's credit they never gave up, put in some big hits, but they must control their discipline, which lets them down far too often.
Clevedon's Somerset Cup match with Walcot was cancelled, so Clevedon progress into the next round.
Next Saturday, Clevedon are away to Gloucester Old Boys. Coach leaves at 11:30, tickets for supporters are £5.
