It was obvious from the start that it was going to be a battle between the mighty pack of Chinnor and the whippets of Clevedon. Clevedon were under pressure early on in the scrums, but ironically it was pressure on the Chinnor scrum and the alertness of star man Ashley Vailes to allow Owen Biggins to pounce for an early try, which Mike Lowis converted from wide out.
In an effort to get into the Clevedon half a kick by Chinnor went straight to centre Kyle Palm, who went in under the posts from 50 metres out. Lowis again converted. The Clevedon forwards were competing well against their heavier opponents and did well in rucks and mauls and coped well with famous Chinnor rolling maul.
Before the break Clevedon added to their score with again godd destroying work by Vailes allowing Biggins to score his second try, which Lowis dutifully converted. A slick handling movement saw Tom Thie chipping for the corner and win the race for the touch down.
The second half saw Clevedon playing into the gusting wind, but good defensive work and dogged forward work kept them well in the lead despite three penalties by Chinnor. Clevedon's try line always looked in tact. With Joe Harwood pitching into the line outs James Shopland and new comer Wayne McMillan won good ball for Clevedon to be able to control the game. The half backs for Clevedon Tom O'Rourke and Ashley Vailes were outstanding while the front row of Potts, Gallagher and Tucker did their jobs well.
Mike Lowis sealed victory with a penalty to end any hopes that Chinnor may have had of winning.
