Clevedon had an outside chance of the play offs if they won and Cinderford lost or drew. On the other hand Oxford had to win to save relegation. Clevedon kicked off with the wind at their backs and took the game to Oxford in their bid to get a big score and scrimmaged very well. From loos play Tim Brooks kicked a long ball to the corner fro Christian Bushell to score a try. It was good vision from the veteran centre. Clevedon were struggling to secure their own ball in the line, which was Oxford's strength. It was from a lineout near the Clevedon line that Oxford drove a rolling maul to score a try wide out.
Both sides natural game was to throw the ball about and a mistake by Clevedon allowed the Oxford tricky centre to score a try from 60 metres out, which was converted. Back came Clevedon who tried everything to score and a good handling movement saw converted winger Anthony Fox score wide out. Mike Lowis converted to give a half time score of 12-12
The second half saw Oxford throw everything at Clevedon, but Clevedon's defence was secure. Clevedon in turn threw the ball around dangerously in their own 22 and from another mistake Oxford scored a converted try. Clevedon now decided to keep the ball into the wind a bit tighter and good inter passing by the forwards saw Mike Panoho go over near the posts. Lowis converted. The introduction of stalwart Neil Tucker and the young James Gallagher gave some impetus to the pack. With time running out, good work by the forwards gave ball to the promising fly half Tom O'Rourke who made a break inside the 22 to over under the posts. Lowis converted.
The result was good, but Cinderford also won and therefore go into the play offs on points difference. A great season for Clevedon, well led by captain Jeff Durant and a good result for departing coach Brian Hanlon.
Next week the club tour to Kennilworth.
