KW: Well caught

Reading, Champions in waiting also known as "The Green Machine" came unexpectedly off the rails to a spirited performance from a Clevedon team deprived of the services of the penetrating Tim Brooks and the bulky John Pearce.

Clevedon started well although they were playing against a formidable pack of forwards and struggled in the scrums early on. It was Clevedon playing with the wind at their backs who took the lead with an excellent try set up by a break by Mike Lowis to put Tom O'Rourke in from 40 metres. Lowis then missed the simple conversion. Mike also missed two other penalties and it was quite obvious that he was giving a Jekyll and Hyde perfromance. Reading had a great deal of possession but the midfield tackling of O'Rorke, Herewini and Thie was outstanding. Clevedon had a player yellow carded but still held on to their slim lead up to half time.

The second half saw Reading step up a gear and use the rolling maul to great effect, but Clevedon managed to cope with it than in past games. Reading got on the scoreboard with a penalty. Clevedon though had many turnovers and kicked away good possession to the frustration of the forwards. Clevedon were awarded a penalty near the Reading line and the quick thinking Mike Lowis tapped the ball to himself to score a try, the conversion hitting the upright.

KW: Well caught

The Clevedon scrum was now beginning to creak, which caused chaos at the back of the scrum allowing Reading to poach a try. Clevedon broke out of defence on numerous occasions with Chris Cates running well. Reading took the lead with a pushover try to lead 13-10. Clevedon never gave up and ran the ball at every opportunity and right at the end a break by Mike Panoho put Christian Bushell away for the winning try.

High points of the game were Clevedon's defence and the pack of forwards who never gave up with Dave Rawle and Joe Harwood having their best games to date. The return of James Shopland helped the lineouts and with Owen Biggins covered the ground like it was a postage stamp.

The next league game is at home to Keynsham on the 3rd April, which is also Vice Presidents day.
