AC: Bushell completes his hat trick

Clevedon came unstuck in this ding dong battle where the lead changed hands often. Clevedon battled hard against a huge pack of forwards and a Chinnor game plan to play ten man rugby to stifle Clevedon's open style of play. Chinnot took an early lead with a penalty. It is unusual to see three penalty tries awarded in one game, but the puzzled crowd were treated to this pleasure. The first was awarded to Chinnor who converted to lead 10-0. Clevedon who had been denied early possession gradually clawed their way back into the game and they were awarded a mysterious penalty try, which Mike Lowis converted. This gave Clevedon heart and a well supported move saw Owen Biggins flash over in the corner for atry, which Lowis converted.

Chinnor were past masters of the rolling maul, this slowed the pace of the game down to suit their heavier pack. Chinnor were awarded a second penalty try, which was converted. Before the break a slick handling movement resulted in Christian Bushell scoring a try, Lowis converting for a 21-17 half time lead.

Soon after the restart Bushell scored his second try to put Clevedon in the driving seat. Clevedon continued to struggle against the mammoth pack and another rolling maul resulted in the Chinnor scrum half nipping round an unguarded blindside. This was converted and a penalty soon afterwards put Chinnor 27-26 in the lead. A push over try, which was converted put Chinnor 34-26 ahead. With time running out a deft kick through by Lowis saw Bushell clinch his hat trick. Chinnor had the final word with a penalty to seal victory. A disappointing result, especially with contenders Cinderford also losing.

Next Saturday, Clevedon are away to Bridgwater, KO 2:30pm.
