Clevedon ventured into the Forest of Dean without Cates, Panoho and Brooks. This made the task of beating their nearest rivals even harder. Cinderford had the upper hand early on, but Clevedon weathered the storm and gradually put their game together and when they moved the ball, looked dangerous. Cinderford took the lead with a well won lineout and the ruck that followed resulted in a try. Mike Lowis picked up on a loose clearance in his own half and ran back at the opposition, sold an enormous dummy to score a try under the posts, which he converted. Clevedon then had a player sin binned, but still a man short increased their lead with good ball won by the forwards, that allowed Tom O'Rourke to make a slight break with outstanding James Shopland on hand to score a try under the posts. The conversion failed. Clevedon led 12-5 at the break.
The second half saw the Clevedon bubble burst. With the lineout still not functioning, the loss of Tom O'Rourke and skipper Jeff Durant with serious injuries and with another player in the bin, Cinderford took their chance and kicked two penalties from with some dubious decisions to help them on their way. Clevedon still created a few chances, but lost the ball was lost near the line. Things now not going their way saw some of the young braves lose their composure. Cinderford scored a second try from a lineout and sealed the win with a late penalty. Clevedon now have to patch up the side and hope the walking wounded will be fit soon.
Next Saturday Clevedon play Barnstaple away. Coach leaves at 11:15.
