Clevedon took the long trip to Cornwall leaving the snow behind them, only to venture into misty and wet conditions. It is not often that sides leave Cornwall with two points but Clevedon did. For eighty minutes they fought hard, defended well and attacked at every available opportunity. Both sides were intent on running the ball with Clevedon looking the more obvious to some, but it was Truro who took the lead with a penalty. Mike Lowis soon equalised with the same. Then a fine handling movement with Justin Herewini making a break, resulted in Tom O'Rourke scoring a fine try in the corner. Truro hit back with a long range penalty. On the stroke of half time Clevedon should have scored but the final pass was intercepted and a length of the field run resulted in a try under the posts, which was converted. Truro led 13-8 at the break.
Clevedon's scrummaging was excellent with John Potts and Nick Hill on form. The rest of the pack mauled and rucked well with Biggins, Page and Shopland all over the place. Truro dominated the lineout, but Clevedon defended well and the game in the second half was played mostly in the Truro half, but Clevedon were at bay. A swift handling movement saw Chris Cates chip ahead and use his superior speed to score in the corner. This was quickly followed by Cates's second try when Mike Lowis used good vision to kick the ball through the Truro defence for Cates to use his speed to score in the corner. Clevedon should have increased their lead from numerous five metre scrums, but Truro kept them out.
Next week Clevedon are at home to Clifton, KO 2:30pm
