After very heavy rainfall the decision to play at the Vale proved to be right with the pitch being in superb condition. Both sides got stuck in from the start and the difference in the leagues between the two sides did not show during the first 20 minutes with Gordano giving as good as they got.. Clevedon took the lead through apenalty by Mike Lowis and this was equalised by Ross Hickney.
Clevedon through everything at Gordano but found it hard to break down their stubborn defence. A neat chip ahead by Lowis saw Chris Cates use his speed to catch the ball and go over for the games first try. Clevedon made errors with too many butter fingers and bad ball retention kept Gordano in the game. A well rehearsed tap pena;ty move saw Lowis go over under the posts, which he duly converted. Good handling and support produced two more tries before half time with Tom O'Rourke and Chris Cates the scorers with Lowis twice doing the honours. Clevedon led 31-3 at the break.
The second half followed the same pattern, with Jeff Durant playing an inspired Captain's role in the lineouts and rom the kick-offs. An excellent handling movement from deep in their half saw Chris Cates complete his hat trick. Tim Brooks converted. Gordano, playing their second game in two days battled well, but had no answer to Clevedon's pace and two more tries by James Gallagher and Anthony Fox, both converted by Lowis, finished the scoring.
Next week Clevedon are at home to Cheltenham in the League, kickoff is at 14:30.
