JH: Man of the match, Justin Herewini scores his first try

Clevedon still without stalwarts John Pearce and Tim Brooks welcomed the return of young scrum half Steve Johnson. They started briskly on their first visit to Chinnor with a fine break by Mike Panoho, which came to nothing when he was hauled down short of the line. Chinnor gradually got into the game as the coach journey affected Clevedon and they went ahead with a penalty after 33 minutes. Chinnor were good up front at the pick and drive and the rolling maul, but struggled when they spread the ball wide against a well organised Clevedon defence. Clevedon took the lead five minutes before half time when Tom O'Rourke made a break, well supported by Anthony Fox, who handed on to man of the match Justin Herewini, for him to score his first try for the club. Clevedon deservedly led 5 - 3 at the break.

AC: Flying Fox

The second half continued with Clevedon dominating the lineout with Jeff Durant and Anthony Fox doing well. Three consecutive strikes against the head resulted in a good supporting movement that saw Owen Biggins going over in the 49th minute for a try in the corner, which Mike Lowis converted.

AC: Bilbo Biggins scores his tryClevedon were unlucky not to score more tries, but Lowis kept the scoreboard ticking away with two more penalties (58 and 61 minutes) with Steve Johnson adding one of his own after 65 minutes. Replacements Simon Britton, Chris Page and Christian Bushell all contributed well to the success during the latter stages of the game. With ten minutes remaining, Chinnor scored a try from a rolling maul to make the score 8 - 21, but failed to make any more inroads into the Clevedon lead, who were well led by Jeff Durant and played with confidence and discipline.

Next Saturday, Clevedon are at home Barnstaple, kick off is at 15:00.
