Clevedon fielding an understrength side were up against it from the first whistle.
The home side threw everything into attack, but Clevedon's defence stood firm and gradually got into the game with some promising runs out of defence.
Clevedon then lost the game in a ten minute spell while Mike Lowis and Chris Cates were yellow carded.
Clevedon down to thirteen men went thirteen points behind during this period to a penalty and two tries.
Clevedon therefore having been under the cosh for most of the half replied with a superb break by Tom O'Rourke, who then kicked ahead for Owen Biggins to follow up with a well engineered try. Swanage & Wareham led 13 - 5 at the break
Swanage & Wareham scored straight from the restart when chaos in the Clevedon defence resulted in a try. Clevedon's lineout did not function to fruition and ball retention was poor.
When Clevedon realised that the game was lost, all five replacements were used and they conceded two more converted tries and a penalty. Clevedon had the last say with a well taken try by Robert Cates.
Clevedon can now concentrate on the league.
Next week's game against Reading has been postponed because Reading have a cup match. Clevedon now go into the pool and will wait and see who their opponents are. |
