This fourth round National Powergen Intermediate Cup game was played in wet, windy and icy cold conditions and both sides deserved credit for the attractive, open running rugby they produced. St Ives with the wind at their backs were in the driving seat early on but Clevedon's defence kept them at bay. From the start Clevedon stamped their authority on the scrum and were dominant in that area for the full eighty minutes. Well done Hill, Tucker and Dauncey and in the later stages, Kemp on for injured Hill. Clevedon's handling behind the scrum was slick and well led by the influential Tim Brooks. A sweeping handling movment involving forwards and backs saw Tom Thie go over for the game's only try. Clevedon led 5-0 at the break. The second half saw St Ives come more into the game with their lineout and rolling mauls proving the main strength. But as always Clevedon's backs and the backrow of Page, Biggins and Fox answered every SOS call, with Owen Biggins being awarded the MOTM champagne by the St Ives Chairman. Both sides had opportunities to score but Clevedon were unlucky on numerous occasions. Steve Johnson increased Clevedon's lead with a penalty. Clevedon then lost Tim Brooks through injury, which lowered the average age of the backs somewhat and in the dying moments of the game their defence held out for a memorable win.
