Yatton 7 Clevedon 42
7th September 2002
| Back to 2nd XV fixtures
Having won the toss Clevedon played down the slope with the elements and quickly started to dominate the proceedings. After 10 minutes of sustained pressure Clevedon away with three points courtesy of Splinter Allington. Having made a meal of the restart Clevedon penetrated the gain line constantly with young Gallacher, the evergreen Mike Sweet and Alan Dunn leading the way. The Yatton defence were all sixes and sevens and Allington made good of the space available to cross over for the try. The Clevedon three quarters started to run the show with some dazzling brakes from Foster at fly half. Sadly most of the possession Clevedon had was let down by the final pass, which would have resulted in more tries scored. Clevedon's dominance especially in the scrum and loose culminated in Allington crossing over in the corner and decided to make his conversion attempt simpler by touching down under the posts, his awareness secured the two points. The first half was rounded off with Al Dunn bulldozing his way from close range and Allington taking the extras. Clevedon had 20 point led at the interval. The home side started the better and into a rare foray into Clevedon territory came away seven points. Changes needed to be made to ensure the visitors made the best of the possession. Pete Frake was installed at fly half and Foster went back to his familiar full back. The changes had the desired effect within a minute or too Clevedon's backs started to make space from well timed passes and great angles of running. Robbie Fielder benefited from this new found confidence and ran in under the posts from a good pass from Rich Hill. Steve Murray came on in the place of Astle on the blind side for the last 30 minutes. Clevedon's fitness started to show in the final quarter with home side getting swamped with yellow and blue shirts, producing some great ball for Riddell to distribute out wide. Clevedo's all round superior skills helped Allington cap off a good afternoon's work by getting hat-trick and converting his effort. Final score 42-7. Next week, Clevedon are at home to Chew Valley, KO 15:00. |
