Both sides on a wet pitch tried to play open rugby from the start and Taunton took the game to Clevedon. It was Clevedon who took the lead with a try by Ashley Vailes, who finished off a counter attacking move from their own line, which Steve Johnson converted. Taunton hit back with a penalty. Clevedon soon got back in the driving seat with a second Vailes try. Taunton again showing plenty of spirit, hit back with a converted try. The game flowed from end to end, fine from a spectators point of view and it was Steve Johnson who went over in the corner to increase Clevedon's lead. Before the half time whistle Taunton kicked a penalty for Clevedon to lead 17-13 at the break.

The second half was a replica of the first with good hands putting Anthony Fox in for a well worked try. Johnson converted. Clevedon kept Taunton in the game with a far too casual approach and complacency. Taunton again replied with a penalty but Clevedon raised their game and a slick handling movement saw Tom Thie go over in the corner. Clevedon went off the boil and let in Taunton for a try before Clevedon increased their lead with an excellent try by replacement Chris Cates. Taunton did not give in and replied with a converted try to keep pressure on a Clevedon team that did not do itself justice.
