St Mary's deservedly did the treble over Clevedon this season and progressed into the Powergen Cup semi final due to their forwards who were completely dominant in the second half. The early exchanges were even but Clevedon took the lead through a Steve johnson penalty after St Mary's had a back row sent off for butting. It was their seven man pack who pushed Clevedon into giving away a penalty try, which was converted. A determined break by James Gallagher enede with the supporting Owen Biggins going over for a try, which Johnson converted. Clevedon passing out of defence had a pass intercepted and mary's scored a converted try. Chris Cates hit back with a devastating run, and a poor kick out of defence by Mary's allowed Christian Bushell to score in the corner after evading 2 or 3 would be tacklers. Clevedon led 15-14 at the break. During the early part of the second half Clevedon gavwe away too many penalties. This disrupted Clevedon who could not get their game together on limited ball possession. The 7 man Mary's pack now took control and their driving and rolling Maul dominated the game. Mary's increased their lead with two penalties. Clevedon heads went down and Mary's hit Clevedon with three tries, converting two to run out deserved winners. Jeff Durant had a good game in the lineout and James Shopland at number eight. Match day photos can be found here John Higman has provided some more photos, which can be found here.
