This local cup tie saw the early exchanges even and the visitors pack in the driving seat, with ex-Clevedon player and coach Kevin Spencer snapping at their heels. It was Clevedon who took the lead with a try by the quick thinking Steve Johnson who also converted. Nailsea & Backwell hit back with a well deserved converted try. Clevedon, missing Pearce and Durant struggled in the scrums and lineouts. Clevedon regained the lead with a well executed blindside move, which saw Christian "Pear Lover" Bushell score in the corner.. The visitors then kicked a penalty. Owen Biggins scored from a tapped penalty, which Johnson converted. Before the break Busheel and Chris Cates scored tries off good handling movements. The try of the match came when Anthony Fox won good lineout ball and a good bout of handling from their own line ended with Biggins scoring under the posts for Johnson to convert. TThe second half showed Clevedon in control, they started to dominate the scrums and their pace in the backswas too much for the gallant visitors. Tries came at regular intervals from Tom Thie, Mike Lowis (2), Tim Brooks, Chris Cates and Owen Biggins with conversions from Neil O'Rourke (2), and Lowis. Nailsea replied with a penalty to improve the spread betting stats for the local bookies. Match day photos can be found here Additional photos from Derek Lilley can be found here.
