Clevedon stamped their authority early on in this sixth round Powergen Intermediate cup game at the Vale. They took an early lead with three penalties by Steve Johnson. Clevedon were in the ascendency and dominated the first half with good lineout work through Fox, Pearce and Durant, helped by the accurate throwing of James Gallagher. A counter attack by Clevedon brought about the first try with Owen Biggins going over ending a sixty metre move. Johnson converted. Before the break a quick tapped penalty by Johnson put Christian Bushell over for Mike Lowis to convert. Clevedon led 23- 0 at the break.

The second half saw Clevedon playing with the breeze but their defence was sound and stopped Canterbury making any headway. Tom O'Rourke increased the lead with a spectacular individual try and Bushell scored his second after a slick handling movement. Canterbury, who were out played had the final say with a try after constant pressure on the Clevedon line. Clevedon now progress to the quarter finals of this cup with the draw on Monday 20th January 2003 to include teams from the north of the country. The match will be played on the 22nd February 2003, venue to be decided.
