Clevedon were fortunate to play on a well grassed pitch at Clevedon School and laid the bogey of not winning at the school to rest. Clevedon took an early lead through a Steve Johnson penalty. A good lineout resulted in a rolling maul and when the ball was released Tom O'Rourke glided over for a good team try. Johnson added the conversion. The visitors had ample possession and their forwards were awesome at times but Clevedon's defence was superb. A good move up the top touch line resulted in Tom Thie going over in the corner. Gloucester Old Boys came back at Clevedon and kept them pinned in the bottom corner, but Clevedon desparately kept their line in tact. Playing with the slope Clevedon opened up more in the second period. With James Gallagher outstanding in a good Clevedon pack and John Pearce also having an immense game, "Our John" drove over from under the posts after thwarting two would be tacklers in the process. None of your fancy Tom Thie celebrations for Jonno, he just walked calmly back shaking a few hands along the way. Johnson converted. Gloucester Old Boys, who seemd to have problems in the backs, kicked aimlessly to Mike Lowis whose counter attacking resulted in Chris Cates sprinting over for a try. Johnson converted. Clevedon now in the ascendency hit back again with Johnson taking a quick tap penalty to score under the posts, which he converted. Ashley Vailes who had an outstanding game scored a try after a determined run. A good all round performance to keep them on top of the table.
