Cleve playing up the slope, applied the early pressure but were forced into errors by good Clevedon defence. When Clevedon settled, swift and slick handling movements resulted in two tries for centre Tom Thie, which Steve Johnson converted to put Clevedon 14-0 ahead.

Clevedon then seemed to take their feet off the pedal and allowed Cleve back into the game with some shoddy tackling and looked for once vulnerable in defence. During this period Cleve hit back with two well taken tries. Before the break Clevedon started to gell again and quick thinking by Clevedon saw Christian Bushell sprint away for a try for Johnson again to convert.

The second half showed Clevedon in the driving seat with the half backs of O'Rourke and Johnson well to the fore. The steadying influence of Tim Brooks in the centre gave impetus to the young studs around him. Good lineout possession from John Pearce allowed Steve Johnson to nip over for a try, which he duly converted. A fine break by Brooks in midfield put Tom O'Rourke in for a well-deserved try. Cleve hit back with a well taken converted try to end the game with Clevedon still unbeaten away from home.
