Clevedon 28 Whitehall 7
27th October 2001
| Back to 1st XV fixtures After a superb performance last week, Clevedon played well below the standard expected of them. The opening stages were even and scrappy. Clevedon forwards won good ball but the backs played well below their skill level and, despite all the possession, it was a penalty by Mike Lowis that put Clevedon into the lead. The backs over elaborated things, tried to be too clever, and played into the hands of Whitehall who looked dangerous at times. After the break, things settled a little and a good handling movement saw Chris Cates score a try early in the second half to see Clevedon on their way. Good line out possession by John Pearce saw Tom O’Rourke score a superb individual try, which Tom Thie converted. Whitehall, who defended well, hit back with a converted try. This spurred Clevedon into action and they went further ahead with two penalties by Thie to give them a 21-7 lead. Still not on top of their game, Clevedon produced a final try for Tim Brooks, which Thie converted to give them the points with an unimpressive display. Next week Clevedon have the weekend off in readiness for their away battle against Coney Hill on the 10th November. There are no match day photos this week. |
