This pressure game for Clevedon was played in very cold conditions up at Lansdown overlooking Bath. Clevedon, with young Bradley Kemp starting his first league game and with Allan Dunn and Tony Dauncy injured, started in fine style. Playing excellent running rugby they took an early lead with a blindside move resulting in a try by James Shopland. This was soon followed by a quick strike by Neil Tucker and with good work by Shopland saw Tim Brookes crash over for a try wide out. Clevedon were really in the ascendancy and a good handling movement saw Shopland score his second try. Good work by John Pearce in the line out saw Owen Biggins go over for a try with Mike Lowis converting from the touchline. Clevedon's problem in the first half was a worrying number of missed kicks at goal and just before the interval Walcot scored a try. The second half saw Walcot dominate the game for long periods, and stout defence by Clevedon kept them at bay. From close range and after good line out work Walcot scored two converted try's which put real pressure on Clevedon who found possession hard to come by, and the cold, the wind and the slope hard to overcome. Clevedon stuck to their task and won the game but again could have put the contest out of reach with the boot, but failed. The kicking problem has to be addressed if the league is to be won.
