Chew Valley 7 Clevedon 46
16th March 2002
| Back to 1st XV fixtures
Clevedon continued their battle for promotion with a fine win away ona narrow pitch, which cramped their style. Clevedon took the lead with a try by Christian Bushell after a bout of slick handling. Chew Valley put up dogged resistance, but Clevedon increased their lead with a try by Chris Cates, again after good hands. Before the break Clevedon scored two more tries through Bushell and Lowis after a period of sustained presssure by Chew Valley. Clevedon's defence was solid and they did well to keep a clean sheet before the interval. The second half showed Chew Valley playing in determined fashion and they deservedly scored a converted try, but good work at the lineout saw Chris Page go over for a well worked try, which Lowis converted. Following more good work at the lineout, Owen Biggins went over, again for Lowis to convert. In between these tries Chew Valley kept the pressure on Clevedon and it was no pushover. A tap penalty resulted in Tim Brooks crashing over again for Lowis to convert. Clevedon, inthe final moments counter attacked from their own line and good well timed passes saw Tom Thie go over for the final try. Again, Clevedon's dominance in the set scrums and lines out were crucial and gave the team a platform to work on. Match day
