Coney Hill 10 Clevedon 43
10th November 2001
| Back to 1st XV fixtures
Clevedon's first visit to Coney Hill turned out to be a memorable one, after a sluggish start. Mike Lowis kicked Clevedon into an early lead with a penalty. Early exchanges were even, but it was soon evident that Clevedon's dominance in the scrums would prove to be a great asset. Clevedon missed numerous chances by over complication, and Coney Hill sneaked a penalty to draw level. All Clevedon's dominance seemed to have gone to waste. Before half time, good approach work led to a try by Tom O'Rourke that Lowis converted for Clevedon to lead 10-3 at the break. The second half saw Clevedon run riot, and play some eye catching expansive rugby. A poor clearance by Coney Hill was collected by Tom O'Rourke who scampered over for his second try which Lowis converted. A good handling movement was rounded off by Neil Tucker who scored wide out, with Lowis again converting. The veteran Tim Brookes was replaced by Christian Bushell with young debutant Mathew Foster moving to full back where he impressed with bravado. A blindside move saw Bushell flash over in the corner, Lowis again adding the two points. On the restart Lowis scored a try which he duly converted, and to finish the scoring, Bushell scored his second with Lowis converting. Coney Hill scored a consolation try which was converted on the final whistle. Match day
