Clevedon maintained their top of the table position in fine style in front of two VIP's; Clive McDonald, president of Somerset RFU and Derek Morgan, the vice president of the English Rugby Union. In heavy conditions Clevedon soon showed their supremacy in the set scrums with young Bradley Kemp well to the fore. After good ball retention and support play, captain Jeff Durant scored the first try, which Mike Lowis converted. A swift handling movement saw the massive form of Tim Brooks crash over in the cornder. In addition to their scrummage superiority, Clevedon's lineout was working sweetly with John Pearce dominating the number 2 ball. The next two tries came from solid scrummaging. Tom O'Rorke for Mike Lowis to convert and secondly, Thornbury were shoved off their own ball for Chris Page to pounce for atry that Lowis converted. The second half showed Thornbury trying hard to get back into the game, but Clevedon's defence held firm and a slight lack of concentration appeared in Clevedon's game. Going into the last quarter, a quick tapped penalty saw Jeff Durant score his second try in the corner. Clevedon applied the pressure and good continuity in their play resulted in awesome hooker Neil Tucker scoring a try for Lowis to convert. Clevedon, now with their tails up ran everything and a good run by Lowis resulted in Chris Cates scoring in the corner. Clevedon saved the best try until last, with super-massive Tim Brooks crowning a superb performance by crashing over in the corner (see photos) after all the backs handled the ball. A great result.
