This top of the table clash lived up to all expectations keeping the large crowds hearts fluttering right down to the wire.

Clevedon made a positive start moving the ball quickly and took an early lead through the boot of Mike Lowis who kicked a penalty.Clevedon lost a line out in their half and the end result was a try to St. Marys in the corner. Clevedon again showed their dominance in the scrums and also their defensive tackling was superb and restored their lead with a second and third penalty from Lowis.

St. Marys had more clear cut chances to score tries than Clevedon but two poor final passes and two tackles by Brookes and Shopland saved the day.

The second half which resulted in ten minutes of injury time, was a classic with both sides on top of their game with St. Marys having most of the possession, but with Clevedon defeating magnificently. John_ Pearce and Jeff Durant enabled as the power house, with the front row of Nick Hill, Neil Tucker and Tony Dauncey were more than a match for their opposition. The backs, on block, attacked in a unit and looked formidable on occasions. Owen Biggins was the outstanding player on the field. With five minutes to go during a period of sustained pressure from Clevedon, Lowis dropped a goal which ensured Clevedon were back on top of the table.
