Clevedon started in fine style against the Somerset Cup losing finalists and took an early lead through a try by James Shopland. Clevedon attacked from the start and quickly followed up with a try by elusive winger Christian Bushell, which was converted by new Dad Mike Lowis. Clevedon dominated the lines out, but unusually struggled in the set scrums. Walcot had most of the play but Clevedon did the scoring and increased their lead with an excellent try by Tim Brooks, after a slick handling movement. Father Lowis converted. Before the break, constant pressure put Clevedon in the driving seat with further tries by Tony Dauncey, Tom O'Rourke and Owen Biggins, the latter being converted by Pere Lowis for Clevedon to lead 36-0 at the break. The second half saw the Old Boys come more into the game and strict refereeing by heavily tanned Andy Weymouth, penalised Walcot for too much mouth, which was to Clevedon's benefit. Adrian Freeman, the veteran of the young Clevedon side intercepted with 60 metres to go and cruised to the line for a try, which Tom Thie converted. Thie, who replace Pa Lowis scored a fine try in the corner and it was Thie who also had the final say with a penalty, to give Clevedon a well deserved win and confidence for the league decider next week. 9/4/2 : Christian Bushell has just emailed me(?!*) to say that this report didn't mention his second try. Well it does now and if he had scored the last effort in the corner instead of faffing around, he would have had the final say and not that nice young lad, Tom Thie! Match day
